Vines.
Vines - Poem by Blood Rose
Each and every spring the vines grow. They creep and they crawl. Over everything possible. The Vines grow strong and green. They bud leaves and flowers. Then in summer when the time is ripe. The vines grow fruit. And the fruit is a bunch grapes. Then autumn comes, The grapes are harvested and sold. Winter comes, and the vine withers. Then spring comes and the vine grows again. |
In modern day, the United States is considered to be one of the most powerful, if not the most powerful, nations in the world. This young nation embraced the idea of freedom and prosperity more than anyone else on earth, but these philosophies could not be said so true anymore right now. The United states are like vines that twist and grab everything around it, invading even the smallest crack in the earth. In America today, there are vines that branch out and grow domestically while others reach out hook onto other nations. Inside the US, the vines twist in multiple different directions which represent the many movements and opinions that have sprouted today, such as the gay rights movement and the new faces of politics. The different “branches” spiral into chaos, for both the good and the bad. Some discover new ideas such as fighting for human rights, while others creep into the darker areas such as corruption in the US. However, when the vines reach out to foreign places, they invade and strangle that area. Many wars and tensions are caused by the American vines that grip onto everything it can. Although America justifies its noisiness in foreign affairs with its job-as-world-a-power notion, they are actually strangling and making the lives of others just harder, just as vines can overtake other plants’ areas. In this poem, Vines, by Blood Rose, the poet talks about the constant growth and invasion of these plants which are portrayed as beautiful yet ugly at the same time. The poet states, “Each and every spring the vines grow/They creep and they crawl/Over everything possible.” America prospered during good times, growing rapidly and branching out just as vines grow during the spring. They can blossom and flower into beautiful things, just as America could, but they can also invade and take over.
